At the scrap yard on the outskirts of the city, four eccentric scientists rummage through piles of useless trash, competing to see who is the best rocket designer. The task is not easy, and the materials are limited. Which eccentric researcher will be the first to fly into space in his innovative rocket?

Space Craft is a family game in which 2 to 4 players build crazy rockets. The game is for players aged 10+ and takes around 15min per player.

During their turn, players move their pawns on the scrapyard board to collect scrap tiles. Later, they will use those tiles to craft rocket pieces. By collecting specific rocket elements, players will fulfill contracts and those will grant them additional points by the end of the game.

The game ends after one player completes their rocket. The winner is the player with the most points.

What's in the Box

The game contains the following:

  • Junkyard board
  • 78 Rocket parts
  • 75 Junk tiles (Wooden tiles in the Limited Edition)
  • 7 Workshop tokens
  • 4 Player boards
  • 4 Wooden player pawns (Upgraded silhouettes in the Limited Edition)
  • 24 Player markers (Wooden discs in the Limited Edition)
  • 55 Standard sized cards
  • 3 Parts trays with covers

How to Play

Ready to go with a full compliment of 4 players! (The board flips over for a 2-player variant.) Each player is tasked with building a space craft from the piles of junk left in the center junk yard.

On your turn, you have three choices:
1. Enter the junk yard claiming the material where you start
2. Search for additional junk materials with which to build your rocket components
3. Exit the junk yard and build rocket components

Move Through the Junk Yard
Moving through the junk yard is where the strategy, and potential shenanigans begin. Players, in turn, enter one of the edge spaces, claiming that piece of junk. By moving around the board, players are able to claim necessary junk while blocking their opponents from getting to the junk they desire. The graphic below shows how movement happens and how it can be blocked.
Building Components
A player leaves the junk yard to hit the workshop at any of these points:
- They have no legal moves in the junk yard
- They have maxed out the weight they can carry
- They have filled all the spaces on their player board
- They just decide that it's time to go

On the same turn they leave, they can build up to two rocket components. The component pieces show below them the required junk piece as well as the minimum total weight of junk pieces required. The graphic below shows potential components that the players could build.

On the same turn as the rocket components are built, up to two (2) design cards from the current design bonuses row can be claimed for victory points. At the end of that player's turn, the upcoming design bonuses slide down into the current row and are replaced by turning over the future design cards. As the game progresses, the design bonuses become more difficult and more valuable.

Note: Rocket components can be reorganized to meet specific design bonuses. Your rocket is not set in stone.
Game End
The game countdown begins once one player meets the requirements of the rocket blueprint (#4 above) and claims the 5 point bonus. (It doesn't have to be pretty or be compliant with real-world laws of physics.) Players have a couple more rounds to complete their own rockets which will allow them to earn the rocket blueprint completion bonus.
VICTORY!!!
The winner is the player who has earned the most victory points from:
1. Triggering the launch countdown
2. Meeting the conditions of the rocket blueprint card
3. Individual goals (see the rulebook for an explanation)
4. Design cards collected
